Nearly 25 years ago I started this blog, (under the tutelage of my daughter), with the idea of examining and showcasing my own artistic output. Even though the site has received more than 20,000 “hits” from the awesome number of 107 countries, and I thank everyone who has been interested enough to check in, I realize that I’m basically writing for myself. Over the years my focus has not only not tightened, but I have developed more tangents concerning art history, some explanations of methodology, my beloved Picasso (an opinion not universally shared), a look at my exhibitions and some inspiring travel where photography in this digital age is an invaluable aid to the artistic eye.

The title I chose for this site, “She paints; she is a painter”, sometimes generates the need for an explanation. To that end I recently I read a reference to this phrase by the 19th century painter, Mary Cassat in David McCullough’s The Greater Journey. … She (Mary) had determined that her time in France would be as a professional painter, not merely, “a woman who paints”, as was the expression!
