If you are any kind of active painter, you are aware that August in Toronto has become synonymous with the Square Foot Show at the AWOL gallery!
The experience is a bit like a foodie eating at a hot-spot, new restaurant recently given a rave review by Joanne Kates where the tables are inches apart, the buzz is loud, the service poor, the prices outrageous, the line-up unbearably long, but you just might get something absolutely delectable to taste!
This show in its 9th year has attracted a devoted following. The lines are long, the space is small, the art pieces are crowded together (you might need binoculars to see those on the top rows) but for a reasonable price (each piece is $220) you could find something brilliantly unique. All original art works are 12 in. x 12 in. and can be in almost any medium. This year I have submitted “Laura’s Barn #7”.
The origin of this painting can be seen in the first post of this blog. I discussed using the image of a beloved barn in Nova Scotia as the departure point for exploring different media and different interpretations of a subject. This one is totally acrylic. It’s painted in a very free, expressionistic style which is my favorite, most comfortable way to paint.
This post is another interlude in my historical narrative of how I got to where I am now. This is a happening!

One response to “#12 Square Foot Show”
Pat – that’s just what I thought when I saw your painting – “loose and expressionistic”. The style and content makes the viewer happy.
