Modernism Week in Palm Springs, California is a unique opportunity to experience the Mid-Century Architecture, that was inspired by the desert environment, resulting in the style called Desert Modernism.
An enviable life-style of simple elegance and informality is provided in these homes with the use of clean lines with unusual angles, glass, natural and manufactured elements (crushed rock, stones, concrete and steel beams, succulents etc.). The end result is simplicity in both form and function!
Protected in the dry climate of the Coachella Valley, these homes are designed with the outdoor living spaces as important as the indoor spaces. Who wouldn’t want to leave the brazen winters of the North East for this very cool environment! Well, that’s Lizzie! My friend, Lizzie, who has been charmed by the area for several years, rented a Donald Wexler home for a month last year and invited some friends to share the experience, which luckily included me. Since I left there, I’ve been thinking about these buildings and have finally made some renderings from some of the photos I took.
The drawings are all 4 x 6″ in acid-free mats and 8 x 10″ white frames. Here they are:

These drawings, 8 in total, can be seen at the “Three’s Company Show” at the Cobalt Gallery until the end of December, along with unique abstract spaces by Liz Russ and whimsically charming pieces by Lee Goldman. The Gallery is located at 870 Kingston Road in the Beaches, Toronto.
The Final Reception will be held on Friday, December 6th from 6 to 9 pm!!
